To Prescribe or Not to Prescribe?: Barriers and Motivators for Progressing Along Each Stage of the Buprenorphine Training and Prescribing Path
This study aimed to identify the strongest barriers and motivators associated with each step toward buprenorphine prescribing (1. obtaining a waiver, 2. beginning to prescribe, and 3. prescribing to more people) among a sample of Missouri-based medical professionals (N = 130). Item weights (number of endorsements times mean rank of the item ’s importance) were calculated based on their responses. Across groups, lack of access to psychosocial support services, need for higher levels of care, and clinical complexity were strong barriers. Amongnon-prescribers (n = 57, 46.3%), administrative burden, potential of becoming an ...

Optimizing Efforts to Promote Mental Health on College and University Campuses: Recommendations to Facilitate Usage of Services, Resources, and Supports
AbstractMental health has long been a challenge on college and university campuses. Though it has historically taken a back seat to physical health, college administrators recently identified mental health as a key area for additional support. With the COVID-19 pandemic bringing mental health into the conversation across the country, there is no more critical and opportune time for colleges and universities to prioritize mental health. Many public and private universities alike have begun to do this, but how can they ensure that the services and resources they are providing and promoting get used and that students, faculty...

Measuring Evidence-Based Treatment Strategies in Youth Community Mental Health Care: the Evidence-Based Strategies Scale
This study examined the factor structure of a provider self-report measure of evidence-based treatment strategy use, the Evidence-Based Strategies Scale (EBSS). MH providers completed the EBSS as part of a larger mailed survey. The factor structure of the EBSS was examined using exploratory factor analysis in a national, multidisciplinary sample of MH providers (N = 1092), and confirmatory factor analysis was subsequently conducted to replicate this factor structure in a state-wide, multidisciplinary sample of Medicaid MH providers (N = 780). Findings indicated a three-factor structure, representing working allianc...

Stakeholder Perspectives on Implementing a Police-Mental Health Collaborative to Improve Pathways to Treatment
AbstractHigh rates of criminal justice involvement among individuals with mental illness have led to collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and mental health providers to improve crisis responses and pathways to treatment. The development and implementation of these police-mental health collaborations (PMHCs) have received little attention in the literature, but these processes are crucial in understanding feasibility and sustainability. The PMHC discussed here is an interagency effort to identify individuals involved with law enforcement who have unmet behavioral health needs and engage them in services. P...
