A propensity score matching study of totally robotic right hemicolectomy versus robot-assisted right hemicolectomy
AbstractTo compare and analyze the differences in safety, feasibility and short-term efficacy between robot-assisted right hemicolectomy (RARH) and totally robotic right hemicolectomy (TRRH). We collected the information of 184 patients who underwent right hemicolectomy in the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University from July 2016 to December 2021. We matched 148 patients (74 with robot-assisted right hemicolectomy and 74 with totally robotic right hemicolectomy) to conduct a retrospective analysis of their clinical outcomes. The incision lengths were 5.14  ± 0.60 cm in the RARH group and 4.74 ± 0.55...

Robot-assisted duodenal switch with DaVinci Xi: surgical technique and analysis of a single-institution experience of 661 cases
We describe our technique using the system DaVinci Xi. Operative and perioperative variables, postoperative complications, and readmission rate were determined. A total of 661 patients underwent duodenal switch which correspond to the 20.7% of the total bariatric procedures performed in this period. A clear decrease in surgical time and length of stay was observed as the number of cases progressively increased. The complication rate during the first 30  days was 9.1%. Among these, only 1.9% corresponded to major complications, being strictures the most frequent (0.9%), followed by leaks (0.45%). Readmission rate in this p...

American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status system predicts the risk of postoperative Clavien –Dindo complications greater than one at 90 days after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy: final results of a tertiary referral center
AbstractTo test the hypothesis of an association between the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physical status classification system and the risk of 90-days postoperative complications after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP), graded using the Clavien –Dindo classification system (CDS). In a period ranging from January 2013 to October 2020, 1143 patients were evaluated. ASA classification was computed by trained anesthesiologists. Postoperative complications at 90 days after RARP were grouped as greater than one (CDS between 2 and 4a) versus u p to one (CDS between 0 and 1). The risk association was c...

Systematic review of academic robotic surgery curricula
AbstractThe use of robotic surgery has increased exponentially in the United States. Despite this uptick in popularity, no standardized training pathway exists for surgical residents or practicing surgeons trying to cross-train onto the platform. We set out to perform a systematic review of existing literature to better describe and analyze existing robotic surgical training curricula amongst academic surgery programs. A systematic electronic search of the PubMed, Cochrane, and EBSCO databases was performed for articles describing simulation in robotic surgery from January 2010 to May 2022. Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) t...

Robotic-assisted spine surgery allows for increased pedicle screw sizes while still improving safety as indicated by elevated triggered electromyographic thresholds
This study demonstrated that the use of navigated, robot-assisted surgery allowed for placement of larger pedicle screws without compromising safety, as determined by pedicle screw stimulation thresholds. Future studies should investigate whether these effects become even stronger in a la ter cohort after surgeons have more experience with the robotic technique. It should also be evaluated whether the larger screw sizes allowed by the robotic technology actually translate into improved long-term clinical outcomes. (Source: Journal of Robotic Surgery)
