Bilateral Supratentorial Subdural Hematomas after Craniotomy for Posterior Fossa Tumor Removal
J Neurol Surg Rep 2018; 79: e23-e25 DOI: 10.1055/s-0038-1642026A 69-year-old man was admitted to the emergency department with headache and dizziness. He was submitted to brain computed tomography (CT) which showed a tumor in the right cerebellar hemisphere, findings which were subsequently confirmed with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). He underwent a paramedian suboccipital craniotomy for removal of the mass. Histology confirmed the presence of a hemangiopericytoma. The patient was discharged 5 days postoperatively with improvement in his symptoms. Fifteen days later, he presented with gait difficulties. Clinical examin...

Cervical Stenosis in Adult Arthrogryposis: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
We present a case of cervical spinal stenosis in an adult female with arthrogryposis that underwent posterior cervical decompression and fusion. A review of spine-related sequelae seen in adults with arthrogryposis and considerations for spinal surgery for these patients is discussed. Rapidly Expanding Lateral Ventricular Meningioma Presenting with Intraventricular Hemorrhage following Remote Whole Brain Radiation and Stereotactic Radiosurgery
J Neurol Surg Rep 2018; 79: e14-e18 DOI: 10.1055/s-0038-1637006Intraventricular meningiomas are uncommon intracranial tumors and infrequently present with hemorrhage. With only 10 reported cases in the literature, it is exceedingly rare for meningiomas of the ventricular system to present with hemorrhage. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a patient presenting with an acute intraventricular hemorrhage in relation to a ventricular meningioma suspected to be radiation induced. In addition, we review the current literature on hemorrhagic intraventricular meningiomas and review the natural history of radiation-induc...

Combined Open and Endoscopic Endonasal Skull Base Resection of a Rare Endometrial Carcinoma Metastasis
We report the case of a 60-year-old female with endometrial cancer who presented with weeks of right cheek pain and numbness that was accompanied by headaches. We describe the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings and surgical resection of a solitary endometrial metastasis involving the infratemporal fossa, middle fossa, cavernous sinus, trigeminal nerve, and nasal sinuses. Due to extensive nasal and lateral involvement, a combined open and endoscopic approach was planned. The patient was discharged home without complication. She underwent adjuvant radiotherapy. Despite its suspected indolent course, intracranial endom...

Use of 3D Navigation in Subaxial Cervical Spine Lateral Mass Screw Insertion
Conclusions The use of CT-based navigation in LMS insertion decreased the rate of screw malpositions as compared with the freehand technique. Further investigations and trials will determine the effect of malpositions on the c-spine biomechanics. The use of navigation in LMS insertion did not show a significant difference in VAI, LMF, SCI, or NRI as compared with the freehand technique. Rapidly Growing Pulmonary Metastasis from Anaplastic Meningioma with Lethal Outcome: A Case Report
J Neurol Surg Rep 2017; 78: e129-e134 DOI: 10.1055/s-0037-1615808Anaplastic meningioma is seldom encountered. Moreover, distant metastasis is extremely rare, with only a handful cases reported. Here, we report the case of a 74-year-old female patient who underwent a combined cranial and endonasal approach for an extensive spheno-orbital anaplastic meningioma (WHO grade III), followed by adjuvant radiotherapy. Although local tumor control was achieved, she presented with lung metastasis 2 years later. The patient then died from pulmonary complications related to chest metastasis. On the basis of this case, we discuss the ava...

Low-Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound and Halo Immobilization Is an Effective Treatment for Nonunion Following Traumatic Spondylolisthesis of the Axis
J Neurol Surg Rep 2017; 78: e119-e122 DOI: 10.1055/s-0037-1607425This case report describes a unique case involving traumatic spondylolisthesis of the axis that resulted in nonunion, angulation, and displacement after conservative treatment with a cervical collar, but which was successfully achieved union with halo immobilization and low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS). Halo immobilization of a traumatic spondylolisthesis in a 20-year-old patient, that previously failed to improve after wearing a cervical collar for 3 months, was immediately followed by treatment with a LIPUS device (SAFHS 4000J; Teijin Pharma, Tokyo, ...

Delayed Brain Edema and Swelling following Craniectomy for Evacuation of an Epidural Abscess that Improved by Cranioplasty: Case Report
We report a unique case of delayed brain swelling following craniectomy that improved rapidly after cranioplasty, and discuss the potential mechanism underlying this delayed and reversible brain swelling. A 22-year-old woman developed surgical site infection after removal of a convexity meningioma. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed an epidural abscess around the surgical site. Subsequently, the abscess was evacuated, and the bone flap was removed. Later, brain edema around the skull defect emerged and progressed gradually, despite resolution of the infection. The edematous brain developed focal swelling outward through t...
