Examining College Counselors' Integration of Religion and Spirituality Into Substance Abuse Counseling
The authors explored college counselors' (N = 77) integration of religion and spirituality into substance abuse counseling. Refusal Self ‐Efficacy Among SMART Recovery Members by Affiliation Length and Meeting Frequency
Using the Brief Situational Confidence Questionnaire, the authors examined the refusal self‐efficacy of 105 Self‐Management and Recovery Training (SMART Recovery) members according to their affiliation length and meeting frequency. Results demonstrated that longer affiliation with SMART Recovery and higher meeting frequency significantly enhanced substance refusal self‐efficacy. Meta ‐Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials of Motivational Enhancement Therapy for Reducing Substance Use
The authors report the findings of a meta‐analysis of randomized controlled trials comparing motivational enhancement therapy with no treatment and alternative treatments. Self ‐Efficacy Among Adults in Substance Abuse Treatment: The Role of Religious Coping
In substance abuse treatment, general self‐efficacy and religiousness are factors that may support positive outcomes. The authors surveyed clients receiving substance abuse treatment (N = 121) and found that religious coping predicted general self‐efficacy scores. Clinical implications are discussed. Parental Predictors of Adolescent Alcohol Use and Alcohol ‐Related Consequences
This study examined parental predictors of alcohol use and alcohol‐related consequences among 9th‐grade students (N = 296). Parental disapproval of teen drinking and quality of parent–child general communication were significant predictors of drinking behaviors. Implications for counselors are discussed. Dialectical Behavior Therapy Techniques for Counseling Incarcerated Female Adolescents: A Case Illustration
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may successfully address the needs of female juvenile offenders, but systemic barriers prohibit adherence to the full DBT protocol. Addiction Topics in Counselor Educator Professional Development: A Content Analysis
Counselor educators prepare master's‐level counselors‐in‐training on addiction topics. This content analysis examined the frequency and types of addiction topics for counselor educator continuing education.
