Review of Intraoral Vasculature and Implications on Incision Designs of Periodontal and Implant Surgeries
Int J Periodontics Restorative Dent. 2023 Nov 3;43(6):753-761. doi: 10.11607/prd.6213.ABSTRACTCurrently, the incision design for periodontal and implant surgeries is mainly based on the surgeon's personal preference. The primary aim of this study is to review the intricate periodontal microvascular system and to illustrate the potential impact of commonly applied flap designs on the integrity of this system. A complete literature electronic search resulted in 37 relevant articles. The maxillary, facial, and lingual arteries supply the microvasculature system, including the supraperiosteal, intraligamental, and intraosseous...

Treatment of Maxillary Gingival Recessions Using the Modified Coronally Advanced Tunnel Technique in Combination with a Volume-Stable Collagen Matrix: A Prospective Case Series with a 12-Month Follow-up
Int J Periodontics Restorative Dent. 2023 Nov 3;43(6):655-663. doi: 10.11607/prd.6244.ABSTRACTThe aim of this case series was to evaluate the clinical performance of a new volume-stable collagen matrix (VCMX) in combination with the modified coronally advanced tunnel technique (MCAT) for the treatment of gingival recessions. Thirteen patients with a total of 33 maxillary RT1 single and multiple gingival recessions were included in the study. Probing pocket depth (PPD), recession width (RECW), recession depth (REC), height of keratinized tissue (HKT), and gingival thickness (GT) were assessed at baseline and at the 12-month...

Decontamination and Repair Protocol Promotes Positive Outcomes in Implants Affected by Peri-implantitis: A Human Case Series
This study assessed the effectiveness and predictability of a readily available protocol to treat peri-implantitis utilizing mechanical debridement, chemical antiseptic surface detoxification, and osseous grafting. Nine patients (7 women, 2 men; mean age: 56.5 years) with 15 implants with peri-implantitis were included. Pocket probing depth (PPD), bleeding on probing (BOP), and standardized digital periapical radiographic measurements were taken. Surgical flaps were elevated, and the implant threads were cleaned with a plastic curette. Chemical decontamination was performed by scrubbing solutions of 0.25% sodium hypochlori...

A Prospective Clinical and Radiographic Assessment of Narrow-Diameter Implant-Supported Mandibular Overdenture
Int J Periodontics Restorative Dent. 2023 Oct 25;0(0):1-13. doi: 10.11607/prd.6622. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis investigation was designed to evaluate clinical feasibility of the use of narrow-diameter implants to support mandibular overdenture. Twelve patients presenting with an edentulous mandible were recruited from 9 dental offices (n=1~2 per office). Each patient received two to four implants in the mandible. The implants were placed without additional bone augmentation. 36 implants were placed in total. All achieved satisfactory crestal bone stability and soft tissue maintenance at 1 year post final prosthetic...

Comparison of Radiographic and Clinical Status and Peri-implant Crevicular Fluid Prostaglandin E2 Levels Among Patients with Peri-implant Mucositis and Peri-implantitis
Int J Periodontics Restorative Dent. 2023 Oct 24;(7):s9-s17. doi: 10.11607/prd.6404.ABSTRACTThe aim of this study was to compare radiographic and clinical status and peri-implant sulcular fluid (PISF) prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) levels among patients with and without peri-implant disease. Patients with peri-implant mucositis (PiM) (Group 1) and peri-implantitis (Group 2) and individuals without peri-implant disease (Group 3) were included. Demographic information was collected, and peri-implant modified plaque and bleeding indices (mPI and mBI), probing depth (PD), and crestal bone loss (CBL) were recorded. PISF samples were c...
