Classification of COVID-19 pneumonia from chest CT images based on reconstructed super-resolution images and VGG neural network
AbstractThe COVID-19 coronavirus has spread rapidly around the world and has caused global panic. Chest CT images play a major role in confirming positive COVID-19 patients. The computer aided diagnosis of COVID-19 from CT images based on artificial intelligence have been developed and deployed in some hospitals. But environmental influences and the movement of lung will affect the image quality, causing the lung parenchyma and pneumonia area unclear in CT images. Therefore, the performance of COVID-19 ’s artificial intelligence diagnostic algorithm is reduced. If chest CT images are reconstructed, the accuracy and perfo...

Classification of normal and depressed EEG signals based on centered correntropy of rhythms in empirical wavelet transform domain
AbstractA widespread brain disorder of present days is depression which influences 264 million of the world ’s population. Depression may cause diverse undesirable consequences, including poor physical health, suicide, and self-harm if left untreated. Depression may have adverse effects on the personal, social, and professional lives of individuals. Both neurologists and researchers are trying to detect depression by challenging brain signals of Electroencephalogram (EEG) with chaotic and non-stationary characteristics. It is essential to detect early-stage depression to help patients obtain the best treatment promptly t...

Epidemiological investigation of a COVID-19 family cluster outbreak transmitted by a 3-month-old infant
ConclusionSARS-CoV-2 has strong transmissibility within family settings and presence of viral RNA in stool raises concern for possible fecal –oral transmission. Hospital follow-up and close contact tracing are necessary for those diagnosed with COVID-19. (Source: Health Information Science and Systems)

GLIMPSE: a glioblastoma prognostication model using ensemble learning —a surveillance, epidemiology, and end results study
ConclusionsOur ensemble models were high-performing and achieved AUROCs as high as 0.94, highlighting the importance of balancing, using ensemble techniques and statistical feature selection. Our models can potentially be used by clinicians after external validation. (Source: Health Information Science and Systems)

Predicting the relationships between gut microbiota and mental disorders with knowledge graphs
In this study, we propose to construct a gut microbiota know ledge graph for mental disorder, which named as MiKG4MD. It is extendable by linking to future ontologies by just adding new relationships between existing information and new entities. This extendibility is emphasized for the integration with existing popular ontologies/terminologies, e.g. UMLS, Me SH, and KEGG. We demonstrate the performance of MiKG4MD with three SPARQL query test cases. Results show that the MiKG4MD knowledge graph is an effective method to predict the relationships between gut microbiota and mental disorders. (Source: Health Information Science and Systems)

A method of VR-EEG scene cognitive rehabilitation training
AbstractVirtual reality technology can intuitively provide patients of neuropsychological diseases with an almost real environment for cognitive rehabilitation training . In this paper, virtual reality technology is used to construct specific scenes that are universal and related to MCI patients to restore and train patients ’ scene memory cognitive ability to help patients strengthen or gradually restore scene memory cognitive ability. The construction of virtual reality scenes with different contents such as life, environment, transportation and tourism, real-time detection is carried out in combination with EEG sig na...

Classification of COVID-19 chest X-rays with deep learning: new models or fine tuning?
ConclusionAlexNet, GoogleNet, and SqueezeNet require the least training time among pretrained DL models, but with suitable selection of training parameters, excellent classification results can be achieved without data augmentation by these networks. The findings contribute to the urgent need for harnessing the pandemic by facilitating the deployment of AI tools that are fully automated and readily available in the public domain for rapid implementation. A hybrid AI approach for supporting clinical diagnosis of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adults
AbstractAttention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that includes symptoms such as inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsiveness. It is considered as an important public health issue and prevalence of, as well as demand for diagnosis, has increased as awareness of the disease grew over the past years. Supply of specialist medical experts has not kept pace with the increasing demand for assessment, both due to financial pressures on health systems and the difficulty to train new experts, resulting in growing waiting lists. Patients are not being treated quickly enough causing problems...

Translational health technology and system schemes: enhancing the dynamics of health informatics
AbstractTranslational health technology and design schemes reflect certain themes in systems approach and its dynamics. This paper discusses these aligned ideas in view of their value to translational design processes. The ideas embedded in these two approaches are considered in the light of critical questions associated with the development of health informatics. Health care processes for patients might be very fragmented. Synergy thinking is required in all areas of design: it is crucial to understand the theoretical frames and issues associated with focus environments, administration, and cost policy. By internalizing c...

Impact of COVID-19 prevalence and mode of transmission on mortality cases over WHO regions
In this study, effect of modes of transmission of COVID-19 is considered with respect to prevalence and mortality counts in World Health Organisation (WHO) regions. Also, a negative binomial model is formulated for new death cases in all WHO regions as a function of confirmed cases, confirmed new cases, total deaths and modes of transmission, with the goal of identifying a model that predicts the total new death cases the best. Results from this study show that there is strong linear relationship among the COVID-19 confirmed cases, total new deaths and mode of transmission in all WHO regions. Findings highlight the signifi...
