Implicit attitudes towards dementia after education: Preliminary trial results from Japan
CONCLUSIONS: Although measuring implicit attitudes using IRAP is deemed not feasible for people in their 70s and older, the differences in interaction experience would be evidence supporting the validity of the measurements of implicit attitudes towards dementia. The results suggest that dementia-friendly education, using VR, improves implicit attitudes towards dementia.PMID:38357750 | DOI:10.1111/ajag.13284 (Source: Australasian Journal on Ageing)

Effect of cognitive training on cognitive function in community-dwelling older people with mild-to-moderate dementia: A single-blind randomised controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: This study showed no benefit of the CT program on working memory, processing speed and executive function. Future studies are required to better understand how CT can be used to improve cognitive and physical functioning in older people with mild-moderate dementia.PMID:38343201 | DOI:10.1111/ajag.13283 (Source: Australasian Journal on Ageing)

Australian medical practitioners' perspectives about current practice relating to fitness to drive assessment for older people with dementia and mild cognitive impairment: A qualitative study
CONCLUSIONS: Perceptions of discomfort relating to fitness to drive assessment of older people with dementia and MCI exist amongst medical practitioners from health-care settings across Australia. In the absence of a well-validated in-office assessment tool, practitioners may benefit from an evidence-based clinical pathway to guide driving recommendations.PMID:38343276 | DOI:10.1111/ajag.13281 (Source: Australasian Journal on Ageing)

Prevalence and patterns of comorbidities in older people with type 2 diabetes in Australian primary care settings
CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of cardiovascular and non-cardiovascular comorbidities in community-dwelling older people with T2DM was high. Adequate primary care strategies should be in place to support the long-term care for this population.PMID:38343287 | DOI:10.1111/ajag.13282 (Source: Australasian Journal on Ageing)

Assessment and management of delirium in a tertiary hospital-Improvements in cognitive screening and use of non-pharmacological strategies with a multidisciplinary approach
CONCLUSIONS: Improved quality of care in delirium management is achievable via a co-ordinated multidisciplinary approach. These audits demonstrated improvements in both rates of cognitive screening, and use of non-pharmacological strategies prior to antipsychotic medication use and better adherence to guidelines for antipsychotic prescribing. Areas for further development in delirium prevention include the uptake of screening and individualised non-pharmacological strategies.PMID:38317569 | DOI:10.1111/ajag.13266 (Source: Australasian Journal on Ageing)

A multistate transition model of changes in loneliness and carer stress among community-dwelling older adults in Aotearoa New Zealand
CONCLUSIONS: Loneliness can change over time due to circumstances and an individual's perception of loneliness at the time of assessment. Carer stress is enduring and has a low probability of improvement.PMID:38317589 | DOI:10.1111/ajag.13280 (Source: Australasian Journal on Ageing)

Implementing recommended COVID-19 public health measures in the era of living with COVID-19: Experiences of residential aged care facility managers in New South Wales, Australia
CONCLUSIONS: We recommend that relevant government agencies develop a single source of formalised, endorsed, up-to-date advice for the sector-specific COVID-19 information and communications; streamline outbreak notification and reporting requirements; and improve consultation with the sector.PMID:38317601 | DOI:10.1111/ajag.13285 (Source: Australasian Journal on Ageing)

Quality effects of home acquisitions in residential aged care
CONCLUSIONS: Our finding that homes' QoC on average declines in the first 2 years following acquisition, are consistent with studies in other countries and points to the potential risks that consolidation poses to the care delivered to older people in Australia during that period.PMID:38317602 | DOI:10.1111/ajag.13268 (Source: Australasian Journal on Ageing)
