A national survey of practice for the emergency fixation of testis
CONCLUSION: This study is the largest survey of methods for emergency scrotal exploration and describes current UK practice. Laparoscopic versus open appendicectomy performed by adult general surgeons in pre-teenage years children: a single-centre experience
CONCLUSION: LA can be safely delivered by adult general surgeons to younger paediatric populations outside the setting of paediatric specialist practice, with statistically significant improvements in postoperative outcomes noted when compared with OA. A systematic review of oncosurgical and quality of life outcomes following pelvic exenteration for locally advanced and recurrent rectal cancer
CONCLUSIONS: This review demonstrates that PE is safe, with a good prospect of R0 resection and acceptable mortality rates in selected patients. Morbidity rates remain high, highlighting the importance of shared decision making with patients. Longer-term oncological outcomes as well as QoL and functional outcomes need to be addressed in future studies. CONCLUSION: This audit demonstrates the different categories and vast amount of packaging waste from a common operation. Manufacturers should place clear recyclability labels on packaging, and switch to recyclable materials and a digital information booklet where possible. The provision of a trauma bed in theatre recovery and its impact on trauma theatre efficiency: experience from a high-volume trauma unit
CONCLUSIONS: A ringfenced trauma bed significantly improved theatre start times and thereby theatre efficiency. This is a simple, pragmatic intervention that benefitted the MDT trauma team while also demonstrating a sustained impact.
