An Investigation on the Compliance of Perioperative Practices Using ERAS Protocols and Barriers to the Implementation of the ERAS Protocols in Colorectal Surgery
CONCLUSION: Healthcare professionals' compliance level of the current perioperative practices with the ERAS protocols was mostly low. Barriers to the implementation of the ERAS protocols had a multi-factor structure that concerns the multidisciplinary team.PMID:38445819 | DOI:10.1080/00015458.2024.2327813 (Source: Acta Chirurgica Belgica)

Aluminum potassium sulfate and tannic acid (ALTA) sclerotherapy for hemorrhoidal disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: ALTA sclerotherapy may be a safe and viable alternative for patients with hemorrhoidal disease. Long-term follow up and high-quality randomized controlled trials will help define the place of ALTA sclerotherapy in the armamentarium of treatment of hemorrhoids.PMID:38428446 | DOI:10.1080/00015458.2024.2326273 (Source: Acta Chirurgica Belgica)

Survival difference between patients with single versus multiple metastatic lymph nodes and the role of histology in pathological stage II-N1 non-small cell lung cancer
CONCLUSION: Among patients with stage II-N1 adenocarcinoma, the presence of multiple metastatic nodes had a significant impact on survival, which was not observed for other histological subtypes. If further refinement as to lymph node count will be considered for incorporation into a new staging system, evaluation of the role of histology is recommended.PMID:38404182 | DOI:10.1080/00015458.2024.2322243 (Source: Acta Chirurgica Belgica)

A Unique Complication Of Thyroidectomy For Hashimoto's Thyroiditis: Central Retinal Artery Thrombosis
ConclusionAlthough it is extremely rare, it should be noted that patients may experience retinal artery occlusion following the thyroid surgery. Immediate evaluation of patients with visual impairment in the early postoperative period, and planning of emergent hyperbaric oxygen therapy for the management are critical.PMID:38391299 | DOI:10.1080/00015458.2024.2323286 (Source: Acta Chirurgica Belgica)
