Skin Failure: An Emerging Concept
This post is based on my article that recently appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association. Skin failure is an emerging concept that ties together current trends in clinical practice and deserves wider acceptance. Wound care providers have long recognized that skin failure exists, but adoption of the name has been limited due to confusion as to its clinical manifestations. Terms such as Kennedy ...Read More (Source: Jeffrey M. Levine MD | Geriatric Specialist | Wound Care | Pressure Ulcers)

Subway Inspiration
Recently I’ve gotten into the habit of carrying my sketchbooks onto the subway.  More crowded than ever, the NY subway is an endless kaleidoscope of people, fashion, and color.  This post presents some of my favorite work based on scenes in and around the subway.  Some were completed on-site, some were started in the subway and completed in the studio, and some were total studio ...Read More (Source: Jeffrey M. Who Makes Insurance Companies Require MOC?
One of the largest reason physicians must participate in the ABMS Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program is because insurance companies demand it. At least this is what the NCQA would like us to believe. Those "evil-doer" insurance companies! But it is the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), heavily marketed (video) by the likes of Atul Gwande, MD, that set the rules about (Source: Dr. Wes)

A Rebuttal to ABIM President and CEO's Defense of MOC
In August, Medical Economics published an interview with Richard Baron, MD entitled: "The Man Behind MOC Defends the Program Against Critics." Medical Economics then solicited  practicing physicians to write a rebuttal. I accepted, but with a warning: @MedEconomics @DrLaurieG Happy to do so but come with a warning label: I will not mince words. — Westby Fisher, MD (@doctorwes) August 7, 2016 (Source: Dr. Wes)

How the ABMS MOC Program Threatens Major Medical Journal Integrity
They are two of the most prestigious academic journal's in the United States: the New England Journal of Medicine  (NEJM) and the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). Both have published extensively on the American Board of Medical Specialties' (ABMS) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Both have clear rules requiring full disclosure of conflicts of interest: the NEJM has (Source: Dr. Wes)
