Medicare beneficiaries paid four times more for prescription drugs than their plan sponsors did in 2021, according to a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report on Medicare Part D drugs. According to the report, beneficiaries paid $21 billion for prescription drugs in 2021, while plan sponsors only paid about $5.3 billion, according to the study of 79 of the 100 Part D drugs with the most rebates. Are COVID-19 Clinical Trials Conflicted?
Assuming the FDA follows the adcomm's recommendations (and I predict they will), this is science at work. It's why the clinical trial process works. What doesn't work is when our political leadership gets out ahead of science-based regulatory decision making. A few weeks BEFORE the adcomm, President Biden announced that booster shots would be available to all Americans ages 12+. That was a mistake.
