Objective A method for measuring intracranial pressure (ICP) noninvasively has long been sought after in neurology and neurosurgery. Treatment failure in individuals presenting with unspecific symptoms such as headache, gait disturbance, or visual impairment occurring in response to increased ICP can lead to irreversible brain injury, progressive disability, and death. Guidelines for diagnostic ICP measurement recommend intracranial placement of pressure tip catheters or lumbar puncture (LP) despite their invasiveness and possible complications. As ICP fluctuations are closely associated with changes in brain stiffness...

[The Conversation Africa] Despite global advances in disability rights, stigma towards individuals diagnosed with mental illness is common across the African continent. In Ghana, research has shown that one of the main roots of stigmatisation is the belief that mental illnesses are caused by supernatural forces, including spiritual punishment for parents' misdeeds. As a result, Ghanaians with mental illness are often mistreated (sometimes violently), mocked by family members and even denied access to their children.

Low back pain (LBP) is complex with abundant biopsychosocial factors interacting to impact pain, disability, and quality of life 35. Approaches that focus on individual factors related to LBP (i.e., reductionist approaches), rather than considering the complexity and interaction between factors, have limited efficacy 12. Considerable effort has been placed on advancing management strategies to embrace the broader dimensions of the condition 26, 31. In personalised medicine, it is increasingly recognised that efficacy of interventions depends in part on the preferences and expectations of the individual with LBP.

CONCLUSION: The evidence for the best treatment of a bony mallet thumb fracture is low. On one hand the functional outcome can be inferior using an open reduction approach, but on the other hand, K-wire fixation methods with a closed reduction approach showed a higher risk for infection. Future multi-center research must be conducted to find the best treatment procedure for the best outcome of the patient.PMID:35032189 | DOI:10.1007/s00402-021-04333-w
