South Africa: Human Resource Issues At Root of Free State Healthcare Problems, Report Suggests

[Daily Maverick] A shortage of healthcare workers is contributing to long waiting times at healthcare facilities and poor treatment adherence, as well as undermining the response to HIV and tuberculosis in the Free State, a new report shows. Spotlight attended the launch of the report and asked the Free State health department for a response.

This study reviewed relevant literature on the health risk factors, social and structural vulnerability, stigmatization and structural violence experienced by undocumented migrants as obstacles to their Human Right to health. It also reviews the current legal framework in Mexico and internationally. This review demonstrates the lack of implementation of the current legal framework in Mexico and identifies a set of complex obstacles to effective access to health for undocumented migrants. Although the migration process itself was not found to be directly associated with major health issues, the social conditions of the m...

Contributor : Amita GuptaSeries Type : Expression profiling by arrayOrganism : Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37RvGene expression microarray was performed using early log phase culture at 37 degree and 200 rpm followed by RNA extraction from M.tb H37Rv, HigB KO M.tb H37Rv and complemented Hig B KO M.tb H37RvFor gene expression profiling, total RNA was isolated from wild type H37Rv, higB KO mutant strain and complemented strains. The bacterial pellets for M.tb H37Rv wild type, M.tb H37Rv HigB KO mutant strain and complemented strain were resuspended in 1.0 ml TRIzol (Invitrogen Corporation, Carlsbad, CA); mRNA was extracted as...

We report a series of three cases diagnosed with tracheobronchopathia osteochondroplastica on bronchoscopy and computed tomography (CT) chest. Most patients were diagnosed incidentally on evaluation for chronic cough. The association of this entity with chronic bacterial infections and tuberculosis is an intriguing entity that was observed in our patients. Nodular, ulcerative, and calcific lesions in the trachea are bronchoscopic findings seen in quite a few other conditions posing diagnostic challenges. However, the classical bronchoscopic appearance with CT imaging in an appropriate clinical context can lead to an accura...

The extraordinary expansion of Toxin Antitoxin (TA) modules in the genome of Mycobacterium tuberculosis has received significant attention over the last few decades. The cumulative evidence suggests that TA systems are activated in response to stress conditions and are essential for M. tuberculosis pathogenesis. In M. tuberculosis, Rv1955-Rv1956-Rv1957 constitutes the only tripartite TAC (Toxin Antitoxin Chaperone) module. In this locus, Rv1955 (HigB1) encodes for the toxin and Rv1956 (HigA1) encodes for antitoxin. Rv1957 encodes for a SecB-like chaperone that regulates HigBA1 toxin antitoxin system by preventing HigA1 deg...

In this study, the FBP algorithm was used to optimize CT images to effectively obtain reconstructed ROI images. Then, the deviation from measurement values of reconstructed images at different pixel levels was analyzed. 138 patients with diabetes complicated with tuberculosis were selected as research subjects to compare the number of lung segments involved and the CT imaging manifestations at different fasting glucose levels. All patients were divided into the control group (routine drug treatment) and observation group (diet intervention on the basis of drug treatment) by random number table method, and the effect of dif...
