However, an alternative view would be that if you took 4 and you decided you hated one of them, you’d have another subject to fall back on. I speak from experience when I say that this can help you out of a hole. When I was taking A levels, my school offered a few subjects at AS as “fun” subjects to be taken over two years. I signed up for 4 full A levels plus a fun subject, then dropped my fourth A level subject for a fun one, you know, just to keep busy (yeah, I know). Regretted that later when I ended up trapped in a third full A level subject where the teacher was abusive and I was having to teach myself the course because he was a genuinely awful teacher. Had to power on through with that third subject and I loathed every minute I spent in that teacher’s class (although that time was mercifully reduced in the second year). I...
