An audit of the effect of case selection on compliance with a 30-minute audit standard for decision-to-delivery interval at category 1 caesarean section

The joint Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists / Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCOG/RCoA) Good Practice Statement on classification of urgency of caesarean section1 states that “a target Decision-Delivery Interval (DDI) for caesarean section for ‘fetal compromise’ of 30 minutesis an audit tool that allows testing of the efficiency of the whole delivery team and has become accepted practice…”.The Lucas classification of urgency used in the UK defines category 1 as ‘Maternal or fetal compromise – immediate threat to life of woman or fetus’ and category 2 as ‘Maternal or fetal compromise – no immediate threat to life of woman or fetus’.
