An essential component of the hand's functionality is dexterity, which is critical to successful functional outcomes in tasks of daily living, work, play, school, and leisure.1 Dexterity is considered a complex concept with varied definitions;2 however it typically refers to an individual's ability to manipulate objects skilfully and precisely with their hands.3, 4 Adequate and quality dexterous movements involve a complex range of hand abilities to achieve desired functional outcomes.
