More than 800 medicines are in development for diseases that disproportionately affect racial and ethnic communities

We are in a new era of medicine where groundbreaking biopharmaceutical research and development is transforming medicine, but these innovations are meaningless if they don ’t reach patients, including those in underserved communities. Health disparities are not new, but the COVID-19 pandemic put a spotlight on long-standing health inequities that affect diverse racial and ethnic communities in America. Data shows these populations have been disproportionately impact ed by COVID-19. In fact, American Indian/Alaskan Native, Hispanic, and Black populations are approximately twice as likely to die from COVID-19, as compared to non-Hispanic whites.
