I'm a speech and language therapist (and hopefully future medic in 2022, grade pending). I am currently putting together a clinical audit for our dysphagia service and I wondered if i could find out from medics how much pre-clinical training is given over to dysphagia. I spoke to a medical student on placement who was shadowing me a while ago and she said that she thinks that it was maybe a single 1 hour lecture, if that. Obviously given how much medics have to know overall this may be proportionally accurate. However, she said that after shadowing our department she thinks it is probably less than it should be given its impact on patient care. After shadowing us and the dieticians she reflected that we as a joint department probably know more than some of the senior doctors she has been with when it comes to managing patient nutrition and dysphag...
