Ablation Beats Drugs for Initial Atrial Fibrillation Treatment

Although guidelines recommend medical therapy before catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation, antiarrhythmic drugs fail to prevent recurrence for up to 67% of patients. In a pair of multicenter trials published in the New England Journal of Medicine, fewer recurrences occurred with cryoballon ablation than with medication as first-line therapy.
