To-Do List for Nurse Scientists: Engage Finance and Foundation

The inherent value that PhD-prepared nurse scientists bring to clinical settings is well known (and well-published). With research doctorate preparation, nurse scientists are qualified to lead all forms of scientific and clinical inquiry (research, evidence-based practice [EBP], and quality improvement [QI]), ultimately facilitating the delivery of safe quality patient care and outcomes (Cashion, Dickson,& Gough, 2019; Erickson& Pappas, 2020; Pickler, 2018). Cashion et al. (2019) outlined valuable professional responsibilities of nurse scientists in clinical settings: (1) offer the most current scientific evidence to impact clinical practice and the nursing profession, (2) influence health policy formation or revision, (3) model clinical inquiry as foundation for frontline nurses' clinical practice, and (4) implement, evaluate and sustain changes within the health care organization.
