Seeking Clarity About Confusion
We appreciate the opportunity to respond to comments provided by Oldham et al,1 who note the similarity between the diagnostic criteria for delirium provided by the American Psychiatric Association Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (Fifth Edition) (DSM-5) and the case definition of the posttraumatic confusional state (PTCS)2 provided by our work group and endorsed by the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine. Based on this similarity, Oldham et al call for a change in the term PTCS to posttraumatic delirium.
