Polysocial Risk Scores for Assessing Social Determinants of Health —Reply

In Reply Drs Kinner and Borschmann raise important concerns around the development and deployment of polysocial risk scores into real-world practice, a topic we described in a Viewpoint. Issues they highlight include problems related to the dynamic nature of social risk, the difficulty of capturing social complexity in a single score, the fact that there is not an optimal score to capture risk across multiple health outcomes, and the potential danger of interpreting the relationship between risk scores and health outcomes as causal. These are all important issues, and we largely agree, although we offer some points for clarification.
