The double aorta technique to treat type II and III thoracoabdominal aneurysms without use of extracorporal circulation

Open surgery to treat thoracoabdominal aneurysms requires the use extracorporal circulation (ECC). This is a key issue in the cases with aneurysms extending to the visceral arteries because an extended ECC can lead to complications of this method: large blood losses, hemolysis with its consequences on the renal, hepatic, pulmonary and intestinal functions. To avoid these complications, we propose the technique of “double aorta”. Parallel alternate circulation makes it possible to provide enough blood flow without the use of ECC.
