Clinical evaluation of atlas- and deep learning-based automatic segmentation of multiple organs and clinical target volumes for breast cancer

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in many countries, accounting for 1 in 4 newly diagnosed cancers [1]. Moreover, it is the leading cause of cancer deaths in women in over 100 countries. As an integral part of the curative treatment for patients with breast cancer, the clinical utilization of radiation therapy (RT) has increased in recent decades. Thus, in this era of three-dimensional conformal and intensity-modulated RT, precise delineation of the clinical target volume (CTV) and the organ at risk (OAR) has become vital.
