Academic Medicine Call for an Assistant Editor for Trainee Engagement

Academic Medicine is seeking trainee applicants for the role of Assistant Editor for Trainee Engagement (AETE). Created as part of the Advancing Trainees as Leaders and Scholars (ATLAS) initiative, the AETE works closely with the journal’s editor-in-chief and editorial staff to develop resources and complementary content for and by trainees. Key Duties The AETE will lead the ATLAS initiative, working with the editorial staff on projects and events to foster trainee engagement (e.g., annual call for trainee-authored letters to the editor, Twitter chats, author and reviewer resources). In addition, the AETE will assist with editorial duties, including soliciting and reviewing AM Rounds blog posts, organizing trainee-centered Academic Medicine Podcast episodes, and reviewing selected manuscripts. The position will involve substantive mentorship from the editor-in-chief and associate editors and opportunities to collaborate with the other assistant editors at the journal. The AETE will participate in regular teleconferences with the editorial team and attend the annual Academic Medicine editorial board meeting. These duties can be reshaped by the incoming AETE in collaboration with the editor-in-chief. The AETE role is a one-year appointment (autumn 2020 to autumn 2021) and is renewable for one year at the discretion of the editor-in-chief. The expected time commitment is 5-10 hours per month.
