Abstract Fatigue associated with arthritis is highly prevalent and interferes with patients' daily routines. An interdisciplinary research team developed the Tablet-based Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (Tab-CBI) for older adults with arthritis fatigue. The goal of the Tab-CBI is to alleviate fatigue by promoting a simple walking activity. The Tab-CBI application used off-the-shelf technologies and was implemented on a mini-tablet computer. The four key components of Tab-CBI are: (a) multimedia cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)-based educational modules; (b) videoconferencing communication; (c) individualized g...

AbstractMyasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease characterised by the presence of acetylcholine receptor antibodies and by blocking the transmission of the signal in the neuromuscular junction causing muscle weakness. It can be associated with several autoimmune diseases and certain drugs, between them Etanercept an anti-tumour necrosis factor (TNF) agent. A 42-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) refractory to methotrexate, was treated with adalimumab (ADA), a human monoclonal antibody against the TNF, in a dosage scheme of 40  mg every 14 days subcutaneously. The patient responded well to ADA th...

AbstractIn Spain, the QUANTUM project has been promoted to reduce variability in clinical practice and improve the care and quality of life of people with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) by accrediting PsA units throughout the Spanish national health system. To present the results of this approach which sought to ensure an optimum level of quality for patients with PsA. Descriptive analysis of the self-assessments that the PsA units have carried out assessing their degree of compliance with the quality standards established in the QUANTUM project grouped into four blocks: shortening time to diagnosis; optimizing disease manageme...

AbstractThere is a high percentage of error in the approach of patients with joint pain by primary care physicians. An algorithm can help improve this misdiagnosis problem. Our study seeks to determine the effectiveness of an algorithm when used by primary care physicians for the diagnosis of cases of joint pain patients. A randomized clinical experiment was carried out. Primary care physicians from five cities in Colombia developed a series of clinical cases, which were presented to them through a website on their personal cell phones. Half of the doctors developed the cases using the diagnostic algorithm, and the other h...

In this study we aimed to investigate the relationship between autoantibodies against a novel citrullinated fibrinogen peptide (anti-CFP), smoking status, clinical activity and therapeutic response in Cuban patients with early RA, receiving treatment with methotrexate in comparison to rheumatoid factor (RF), anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide of second generation (anti-CCP2) and anti-mutated citrullinated vimentin (anti-MCV). A 6-month prospective observational study was performed in 60 early RA patients at baseline and 6  months after receiving methotrexate. Baseline and outcome measures included disease activity scor...
