Duplex systems: top-down or bottom-up approach?
Duplex systems can be complicated by reflux, ureterocele, obstruction (most commonly PUJ in a lower moiety) and wetting secondary to an ectopic ureteric insertion in girls. The decision making algorithm for selection of surgical approach is complex and there is no consensus. The authors described the outcomes following an upper urinary tract approach in 2011(1) and now compare these results in a similar group of patients managed using a lower approach.

ConclusionIn a series of children and adolescents with ADCS, BIPSS was safe and highly accurate in defining the central to peripheral ACTH gradient using desmopressin as secretagogue. Nevertheless, there was a limited value of the ACTH-gradient between the petrosal sinuses for the tumor location.
Authors: Merideth MA, Introne WJ, Wang JA, O'Brien KJ, Huizing M, Gochuico BR Abstract Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome (HPS) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by defective biogenesis of lysosome-related organelles. Clinical manifestations include a bleeding diathesis due to a platelet delta storage pool deficiency, oculocutaneous albinism, inflammatory bowel disease, neutropenia, and pulmonary fibrosis. Ten genes associated with HPS are identified to date, and each gene encodes a protein subunit of either Biogenesis of Lysosome-related Organelles Complex (BLOC)-1, BLOC-2, BLOC-3, or the Adaptor Protein...
In conclusion, SS patients had more severe sicca symptoms than non-SS individuals. SSI scores were negatively correlated to the salivary flow rates but positively correlated to caries experience and oral Candida colonization.
ml;l N, Kul S, Tınaztepe K Abstract BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: There are controversial results in the literature regarding urinary electrolytes, especially potassium, in enuretic children. KCNJ10 channel protein, a member of the Kir 4.1 family is expressed in renal distal tubules and has an important function in renal ion transport. We investigated whether KCNJ10 gene polymorphisms are associated with clinical and laboratory findings of a group of Turkish children with monosymptomatic primary nocturnal enuresis (MNE). METHOD: Ninety-seven MNE children and 100 healthy controls were tested for three single nuc...
Abstract Mercury (Hg) methylation could occur in freshwater ecosystems with low or high salinity. However, few studies are available about the effects of salinity change on mercury(Hg) release and methylation. In-situ experiments using Suaeda heteroptera wetland soil column from the Liaohe estuary were performed to decipher how total mercury (THg) and methylmercury (MeHg) contents change under fluctuant salinity and wet and dry soil conditions. Salinity gradients were set to 0.50% (S1), 1.00% (S2), 1.50% (S3) and 1.80% (S4), and pure deionized water was used as a blank control (CK). Wet and dry soil conditions wer...
