A resilience framework for addressing self-management in high risk adolescents with diabetes

Rates and prevalence of pediatric Type 1 diabetes (T1D) are increasing disproportionately among racial/ethnic minority adolescents, as compared to non-Hispanic whites (Imperatore, Boyle, Thompson, et al., 2012). Poor diabetes related self-management (SM), leading to poor glucose control, can have irreversible health consequences and is associated with poor transition to adult management (Owen& Beskine, 2008). T1D is one of the most demanding pediatric chronic illnesses in terms of SM (Naranjo, Mulvaney, McGrath, Garnero,& Hood, 2014).
