Financial implications of clinical coding in an ENT outpatient clinic
Clinical outpatient procedures are allocated chargeable tariffs that generate hospital income from Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) through the Payment by Results system. Inaccurate coding of procedures may lead to significant losses for the hospital, however the degree of loss is unknown.
