AbstractPurposeTo investigate any association between the presence of an adnexal cystic lymphangioma (ACL) and an enlarged leiomyomatous uterus.MethodsA retrospective observational study was conducted by two expert radiologists using a 10-year MRI database (2008 –2018); 85 patients (mean age: 45.5 years ± 10.9) were considered eligible due to the presence of a single (n  =  31) or multiple (n  =  54) leiomyomas causing distortion of the uterine contour and uterine enlargement. The association of specific leiomyoma features (longest diameter (Dmax), location, numbe...

Authors: Magro G, Salvatorelli L, Puzzo L, Piombino E, Bartoloni G, Broggi G, Vecchio GM Abstract The diagnosis of bland-looking spindle cell lesions of the breast is often challenging because there is a close morphological and immunohistochemical overlap among the different entities. The present review will discuss reactive spindle cell nodule/exuberant scar, nodular fasciitis, inflammatory pseudotumor, myofibroblastoma (classic type), lipomatous myofibroblastoma, palisaded myofibroblastoma, benign fibroblastic spindle cell tumor, spindle cell lipoma, fibroma, leiomyoma, solitary fibrous tumor, myxoma, schwannoma/...

ConclusionsThis study demonstrates the in vitro anti-fibrotic, anti-migratory and anti-proliferative effects of quercetin and I3C laying the scientific bases for the development of new therapeutic and/or preventive agents for the uterine leiomyomas.

In this study, AMEVs were isolated from patients with adenomyosis and characterized by transmission electron microscopy, Western blot, and nanoparticle tracking. Primary endometrial epithelial cells (EECs) were derived from normal endometrium tissues from patients with leiomyoma and co-cultured with AMEVs in vitro. AMEV uptake was examined by fluorescence confocal microscopy. The invasion of EECs was confirmed by Transwell assay. Immunohistochemistry, Western blot, and qRT-PCR were performed on EECs to illustrate the expression levels of cytokeratin 19, E-cadherin, vimentin, and zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 1 (ZEB1)....

Authors: Torresan F, Iacobone M Abstract Hyperparathyroidism-jaw tumor (HPT-JT) syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by parathyroid tumors in association with fibro-osseous jaw tumors and uterine and renal lesions. HPT-JT syndrome is caused by germline mutations of the cell division cycle 73 (CDC73) gene that encodes the parafibromin, a 531-amino acid protein with antiproliferative activity. Primary hyperparathyroidism is the main finding of HPT-JT syndrome, usually caused by a single-gland parathyroid involvement (80% of cases), at variance with other variants of hereditary hyperparathyroidism,...

In conclusion, these findings further support the idea of routine reflex molecular testing of uterine mesenchymal tumors with unusual clinical presentation or in case malignancy is suspected. Lastly, we suggestZC3H7B –BCOR rearranged high-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma might be considered as a tumor suitable for BCL6-targeted treatment.

ConclusionsDifferential diagnosis determined the calcified nodules to be consistent with calcified tumors, and most consistent with a calcified leiomyoma with cystic degeneration, potentially uterine.SignificanceThe identification of the calcified nodules as most consistent with calcified uterine leiomyomas adds to the paucity of paleopathological literature on calcified leiomyomas and calcified tumors more broadly. It also allows for an important discussion of the health of women in medieval Transylvania.LimitationsInterpretation would be aided if a more precise origination within the body was known. Careful excavation an...
