ConclusionsPrevalence of anxiety is higher among people with hearing impairment than the general population; our findings indicate that this excess morbidity may be related to the hearing impairment itself, as it was associated with the severity of impairment, and reduced after surgical treatment. Clinicians should be aware of the potential impact of hearing on mental health, and that where hearing ability can be improved, this may reduce anxiety.Prospero registration numberCRD42018088463.

AbstractThe danger of the parapharyngeal space mass comes from the small space and vital neighboring structures. Its differential diagnosis is broad, however benign lymphoid hyperplasia in this region has not been previously reported. The literature on somatostatin-positive parapharyngeal space lesions was reviewed. A 51-year old male with otalgia for 3  months, hearing loss, and tinnitus underwent audiogram, revealing asymmetric hearing loss. Laryngoscopy demonstrated a pareti...

Conclusions The present investigation reveals copious amounts of tinnitus-related information on different social media platforms, which the community with tinnitus may use to learn about and cope with the condition. Audiologists must be aware that tinnitus sufferers often turn to social media for additional help and should understand the current climate of how tinnitus is portrayed. Clinicians should be equipped to steer individuals with tinnitus toward valid information.

In Reply We thank Dr Wu and colleagues for their interest and comments on our research. Various factors may affect hearing recovery after SSHL, such as age, degree of hearing loss, type of hearing loss, interval from onset of symptoms to treatment, tinnitus, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and the presence of vertigo. We were unable to include the hearing level at onset into our analyses owing to the lack of corresponding data in the included studies. Moreover, only 1 of the included studies assessed the possible association between the presence of vertigo and hearing recovery in patients with severe sudden sensor...
