CONCLUSIONS: The serum levels of CA125 and HE4, ROMA index and IHC markers for surgical tissue fragments play a very important role in discriminating and reporting borderline ovarian tumors, as well as benign or malignant ovarian forms. Due to the superior sensitivity and specificity of CA125 and HE4, we can consider these markers as an alternative or additional diagnostic criterion to the ROMA index. CONCLUSIONS: Our study showed that BTMs correlated negatively with lumbar BMD and positively with each other. Resorption markers levels increase with duration of estradiol deprivation period. PMID: 32239087 [PubMed - in process]

Park The fruit of Schisandra chinensis (SC) is a well-known traditional herb used for pharmacological purposes in Asian countries (e.g., Korea, China, and Japan). In animal studies, SC extract supplementation had beneficial effects on muscle strength and lactate level. However, the effect of SC extract supplementation on skeletal muscle strength and lactate at rest in humans remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of SC extract supplementation on quadriceps muscle strength (QMS) and lactate at rest in adult women. Forty five healthy post-menopausal middle-aged women (61.9 ± 8....

This article reviews sex differences in stroke risk and presentation, with a particular emphasis on the unique risk factors women experience throughout the lifespan. RECENT FINDINGS Although prior studies suggested women have worse outcomes after stroke, it is now clear that age, prestroke functional status, and comorbidities explain many of the differences between men and women in stroke severity, functional outcomes, and mortality. Several meta-analyses and large cohort studies have evaluated the risk factors for women related to reproductive factors and found that fewer years between menarche and menopause, pregnancy...

(University of Jyv ä skyl ä - Jyv ä skyl ä n yliopisto) Late menopausal status is associated with an elevated level of depressive symptoms that indicate the negative dimension of mental well-being. However, menopause was not linked to positive dimensions of mental well-being in women aged 47 to 55. The results also suggest that a high level of physical activity was linked to fewer depressive symptoms, higher satisfaction with life and higher positive affectivity in menopausal women.

This study aims to investigate the combined effects of Ex and CR on the cardiometabolic status, and cardiac calcium ([Ca2+]i) regulation in estrogen-deprivation, obese prediabetic rats. Female rats were fed with either a high-fat diet (HFD) or a normal diet for 13 weeks. The HFD rats were ovariectomized (HFO), and subjected to 1) vehicle (HFOV); 2) calorie restriction (HFOCR); 3) exercise (HFOEx); 4) combined therapy (HFOCB); or 5) estrogen (HFOE2). After six weeks of interventions the cardiometabolic status, cardiac [Ca2+]i transients, mitochondrial function and dynamics were determined. HFD-fed rats developed insulin r...

Abstract OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between dietary total antioxidant capacity (dTAC) and risk of breast cancer among Iranian women. DESIGN: In this hospital-based case-control study, dietary intake of participants was collected using a 168-item validated FFQ. Dietary TAC was assessed using FRAP assay considering. Logistic regression was used to obtain ORs for breast cancer across quartiles of dTAC. SETTING: Cancer Institute, Iran. PARTICIPANTS: We included 412 women with pathologically confirmed breast cancer and 456 apparently healthy controls. RESULTS:...
