We agree with your comments about MCID and concerns about using the distribution-based method to calculate MCID.1 As you note, this is a statistical measurement, which may or may not always be clinically relevant or the same as an MCID calculated using an anchor-based approach. We do feel that outcomes based on the patient perception are important, and this is why we also chose to calculate our PROMIS MCIDs using MCIDs determined from previously validated patient-reported outcome measures for carpal tunnel syndrome: the Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire and the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire.
