Re-applying to medical for Fall 2015

by foville1859 (Posted Thu Aug 01, 2013 6:44 am) During my masters program I decided to retake the MCATs hoping that I would do better and be able to apply for the upcoming cycle. Unfortunately I did not do well again scoring a 22M (PS:7 VR:7 BS:8) In your own mind, what is the reason for the discrepancy between the good grades in a decent science masters' program, and the low scores on the MCAT's? Do you feel you are just not good at taking standardized tests? The standard is set for a reason, which is to see whether the students have mastered the material, and to act as an equalizer, because grades alone may not tell the whole story. Some schools are much easier than others and inflate the grades, etc. so if everyone takes the same test, it makes it fair, because it's the same objective measurement for everyone. Given that I have taken the MCAT 3 times (going on 4th) I am a little worried about how that will be perceived when applying. The really bad part is the third time taking the test the score went way down, 26 ---> 22.So that makes it look as if you have spent a lot of time studying in an epic struggle with the MCAT, but are not getting anywhere. And then the fourth time, kind of like a gambler spinning the roulette wheel, and hoping that their lucky numbers will come up.
