Evaluation of Electronic Medical Records on Nurses' Time Allocation During Cesarean Delivery

Conclusions On average, nurses spent 40% of their intraoperative time on the EMR during cesarean births, and this time burden was distributed across the perioperative period. These findings highlight the time burden of EMRs and suggest that EMR functionality should be better aligned with end-user needs. Future studies are needed to better understand the impacts of intraoperative EMR use on patient safety and patient/nursing/clinician communication.
