Authors: Dahaba AA Abstract Numerous clinical conditions that have a direct effect on electroencephalography (EEG) cerebral function could also directly influence brain function monitors (BFM) indices. There is no conventional comparator technology for BFM assessment. The conventional comparator technology used as a benchmark for assessing BFMs technologies chosen by the UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) to reflect the currently used standards in the National Health Service (NHS), was demarcated as "standard anesthetic clinical monitoring" and precisely defined as "the combi...

CONCLUSIONS: Intraoperative acupuncture at HT7 and ear Shen Men did not reduce PAED scores after myringotomy tube placement. Based on these data, it is therefore unlikely that alarger study of the same design would demonstrate a significant effect of intraoperative acupuncture on emergence delirium after brief sevoflurane anesthesia. However, other acupuncture points or techniques could be considered. PMID: 31808657 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Authors: Genç Moralar D, Tok Cekmecelioglu B, Aslan M, Hergünsel GO Abstract BACKGROUND: Quadratus lumborum block (QLB) is a newly-defined trunk block performed with local anesthetic injection by imaging the abdominal muscles with ultrasonography (US) guidance; thus, analgesia is expected to be ensured from the T7-L1 dermatomal segment level. In the study, the aim was making the comparison between the quadratus lumborum block and the intravenous analgesia with tramadol on postoperative analgesic effect in pediatric patients undergoing lower abdominal surgery. METHODS: Patients included in the study ...

The levels of SNAI1 mRNA and protein were detected by real-time PCR and western blot. Cell migration ability was evaluated by wound healing assay, and the invasion of cells was measured using transwell assay....

Hi all, Current MS4 on the interview trail for anesthesia residency. I've been to a number of interviews and am close to finalizing my rank list. Many residents boast the mantra of "gut feeling - based on people, etc." for your list. For those of you into practice (PP, academics, etc.) - what do you wish you knew before residency? Obviously the culture of the program and the fit are VERY important, don't get me wrong. What objective things about a residency training do you think is most... Attendings - What would you tell your MS4 self today?

We present the case of a patient with tubulovillous adenocarcinoma of the anal canal which relapsed after chemoradiation. The patient refused salvage surgery and was treated with definitive electrochemotherapy under general anesthesia. Tumor electroporation performed with the insertion of three needles in the recurred site was preceded by an intravenous bolus of bleomycin. After the administered treatment, the patient showed a complete clinical response. A year after electrochemotherapy, the patient is free from local disease with excellent preservation of the sphincter function. Electrochemotherapy may be considered as an...

Oral mucositis is among the most common tissue toxicities associated with both cytotoxic cancer regimens and head and neck radiotherapy. Current management of oral mucositis might comprise growth factors and cytokines, anti-inflammatory agents, anesthetics, analgesics, antimicrobial and coating agents, cryotherapy and mucosal protectants. Despite its long history and its impact on patients, there are currently no effective options for the prevention or treatment of mucositis. In recent years, more attention has been focused on the role of natural drugs. Verbascoside belongs to the phenylpropanoid glycosides family. Several...

AbstractAortic peak systolic velocity variation ( ΔVpeakAo) is a reliable dynamic indicator of preload in mechanically ventilated children. However, easily measurable alternative parameters like carotid peak systolic velocity variation ( ΔVpeakCa) and suprasternal peak systolic velocity variation ( ΔVpeakSs) are not well evaluated in children. The aim of the study was to find correlation between ΔVpeakCa and ΔVpeakSs to ΔVpeakAo, as potential surrogate markers of fluid responsiveness. 52 children, 1 –12 years old, undergoing major non-cardiac surgeries under general endotrache...

AbstractThe main aim of this study was to assess whether the ultrasound examination and measurement of the pyloric antral cross-sectional area (antral-CSA) in the supine position could be useful to diagnose a full stomach using a computed tomography (CT) as a comparator in emergency patients. Immediately before general anesthesia induction in patients undergoing emergency abdominal surgery, antral-CSA was measured and the volume of the gastric contents was evaluated via ultrasound in the supine position. Gastric content volume was also calculated from a CT image taken prior to the operation. The primary outcome of this stu...
