Counseling Women Who Have Terminated a Pregnancy Due to Fetal Anomaly (TOPFA): The ACCEPT Model

This article attempts to provide a practice model through a composite case study utilizing the proposed ACCEPT model. The ACCEPT model incorporates elements of modern grief theory and consists ofacknowledging disenfranchised grief, connecting emotions to the loss, continuing bonds, exploring distortions, practicing new skills, andtelling the story. Implications and recommendations for social work engagement, awareness, and therapeutic support of this population are also provided.

AbstractNative circulating oxytocin (OT) levels in non ‐pregnant/non‐lactating/non‐medicated humans are very low (≤8 pg/mL). The lower limit of detection (LLOD) of our previous liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC‐MS) method (10‐25 pg/mL) precluded their quantification in serum and urine. Thus, we sought to improve the LC‐MS sensiti vity of OT measurements in these matrices by hydrophobic tagging and solid phase extraction (SPE). In the former approach, OT was reduced then alkylated with N‐alkyl acetamide (C12, C14, C16, and C18) tags or derivatized using sulfonyl chloride‐based reagents. In the l...

Purpose of review To review recent evidence on the capacity of vitamin D to prevent atopic disease, focussing on food allergy and asthma, and potential underlying mechanisms. Recent findings The incidence of allergic disease continues to increase worldwide. Vitamin D status is influenced by sun exposure and dietary intake. Vitamin D deficiency is linked to an increased incidence of allergic disease and asthma. These associations are generally strongest in early life. The capacity of vitamin D to enhance antimicrobial pathways, promote peripheral immunological tolerance and maintain mucosal barrier integrity may underl...

This study aimed to explore the effect of antidepressant treatment on the HPA axis, changes in depression score, and serum levels of TNF- α in depressed infertile women. Methods In this randomized controlled trial research, 60 infertile women who had undergone in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment with depression scores between 16-47 were divided into two groups. The intervention group with fluoxetine capsule was under treatment for two months before the embryo transfer, while the control group was given placebo. Depression score, serum levels of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF- α ) as well as cortisol hormon...

CONCLUSIONSPregnancy resource centers play a role in meeting the acute material and social needs of low ‐income pregnant women. However, the constraints on the resources the centers offer mean that this support cannot be part of a reliable system of care. Advocates and policymakers should take a nuanced approach to regulating these centers and consider the reasons women visit them, especially low‐ income women.
