Urgent advice!!!

by Mememe000 (Posted Sat Oct 05, 2019 1:08 am) Hi fellow med students,I'm in a very unique position and I need your help. I can't believe I did this and I feel so silly, but I need advice. FAST! [also, please only give helpful comments as I'm in a bad place right now and I don't think I can bear the ridicule]. So here goes...I'm in my MD program and I've just been having trouble with absences. Actually, at the end of last year, my mum had a serious surgery and had been in constant bed rest with symptoms getting better and worse. This, and a few other factors, had really impacted me mentally and I wasn't able to attend some compulsory classes. I missed too many and unfortunately was told to take a leave of absence to prevent any further complications (this was around midyear). I delayed applying for the leave of absence till now and didn't attend any classes in the meantime. I am going to apply for it now and I'm just not sure about how to explain the time lapse of why it took me so long to apply for a leave of absence (by talking to the head of our med school) and I'm unsure as to word my reason for taking the leave of absence (it goes something along the lines of trying to take care of my mental wellbeing because the injury to my mum had detoriated my concentration on studies for this year).Any advice on how to word it or any advice on how I can handle this discussion with the head of MD will be greatly appreciated.
