Improved cycle durability of hydrogen absorption and desorption in melt-spun Mg86Pr3Al11 alloy

Publication date: 15 November 2019Source: Materials Letters, Volume 255Author(s): Jia Zhou, Qingan ZhangAbstractIn this work, the hydrogen absorption and desorption properties of a melt-spun Mg86Pr3Al11 alloy were studied using a Sieverts-type apparatus. It was found that the melt-spun Mg86Pr3Al11 alloy exhibits an enhanced cycle durability of hydrogen absorption and desorption. After fifty hydrogen absorption and desorption cycles at 300 °C, the capacity retention rate is about 97% and the hydrogen sorption kinetics undertakes only a slight degradation, which is related to the existence of PrAl2 and Pr3Al11 phases in the melt-spun Mg86Pr3Al11 alloy.
