Differential response to vibration of three forms of scoliosis during axial cyclic loading: a finite element study

Scoliosis is a serious disease that can affect all segments of society. Few studies have investigated the response to vibration of differing sinusoidal axial cyclic loading frequencies for different forms of s...

Conclusions: Our evidence suggests that the L5-KAL can serve as an indicator of the thoracic curve change in Scheuermann's disease and postural kyphosis patients and should be considered in clinical practice. PMID: 31940713 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

For over four decades, clinicians and researchers have suggested a relationship between congenital heart disease (CHD) and scoliosis, attributed to either the disease itself or to the long-term effects of cardiac surgery on the immature thoracic cage. However, no study has yet accounted for 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11.2DS), the second most common cause of CHD after Down syndrome. 22q11.2DS has a scoliosis risk of 50%, but within 22q11.2DS a previous report found no significant association between scoliosis and CHD.

Publication date: June 2020Source: Interdisciplinary Neurosurgery, Volume 20Author(s): Adrian Kelly, Aftab Younus, Patrick LekgwaraAbstractAdult scoliosis is an umbrella term referring to all forms of scoliosis occurring in skeletally mature individuals, irrespective of whether the deformity began before or after skeletal maturity. Adult degenerative scoliosis is a specific type of adult scoliosis that refers to a structural curve that develops after skeletal maturity in a previously normal spine. The pathogenesis of adult degenerative scoliosis has at its foundation the same starting point of degenerative spine disease na...

ConclusionsBoth distal radius and ulna scores correlate with the longitudinal growth potential, and thus, the DRU scoring scheme is an alternative predictor for growth potential and curve progression in girls with IS.Graphic abstractThese slides can be retrieved under Electronic Supplementary Material.

Abstract The present study analysed the response of whitefish (Coregonus lavaretus L.) to reduced toxicity after the long-term contamination of subarctic Lake Imandra. High concentrations of Ni, Al, and Sr in fish organs and tissues were accompanied by nephrocalcinosis, scoliosis, and myopathy during the period of intense contamination. After reduction of the toxic impact on the lake, the accumulation of Cu, Al, Sr, Cr, Pb, and Hg in the kidney, which is the target organ for toxicity, was two-fold less and that of Cd was 10-fold less in whitefish from the contaminated part of the lake compared with those in whitef...

Conclusions: Given the importance of accuracy in height measures to evaluate infant health, it is crucial to carry out more researches in order to safely establish an association between both estimate and real statures. The development of anthropometric protocols, emerged from such researches, would benefit the follow-up of children with severe psychomotor disabilities.RESUMO Objetivo: Revisar estudos que avaliam correspond ência entre a altura estimada por medidas segmentares e a estatura real de crianças com paralisia cerebral. Fonte de dados: Revisão sistemática da literatura entre 1995 e 2018...

This study aimed to develop a risk score based on 5-year-old children with CP to predict the risk of scoliosis before the age of 16.Patients and methods - This prospective registry study included 654 children with CP in Sweden born in 2000 to 2003 and registered with the Swedish CP follow-up program (CPUP) at the age of 5 years, including all Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) levels. 92 children developed a scoliosis before the age of 16 years. Univariable and multivariable logistic regressions were used to analyze 8 potential predictors for scoliosis: GMFCS, sex, spastic subtype, epilepsy, hip surgery, mi...
