Entry to Medicine in UK compared to Spain

Hi all, I'm currently living in Madrid doing the access test for university to study medicine. I'm a UK national and know the system of getting into medical school there quite well (or at least I know how it was in 2008). I wanted to tell you about how it works to get into a medical degree in Spain and get your opinion on which way you think is best. The usual way to access in Spain is to use the exams you sit in university along with an additional test. It's not so dissimilar to A-levels except that their grade is express as a number with decimal points. The process of selecting students is very straight forward. The university looks at all the grades and selects the top however number to fill their places. So each year the grade boundary moves because it depends on the grades that the top however many people achieve. Of course, as in the UK, the grade boundary is incredibly high. I like this system very much. There's absolutely no bias. Alot in the UK depends on interviews, personal statement and work experience. With anything that someone writes in a personal statment or says in an interview, its more to do with a testing your ability to persuade than anything else and its based heavily on the perception of the interview. In regard to work experience, I can see how it shows motivation but deciding whose work experience is worth more than another seems a bit of a nonsense to me. What do you think?
