Person-Centered Approaches to Human –Animal Interaction

Across all settings of care we are increasingly focused on using and providing behavioral interventions to optimize health, well-being, and quality of life, to increase physical activity, and to manage the behavioral and psychological symptoms associated with aging. The human –animal bond, defined by the American Veterinary Medical Association as “a mutually beneficial and dynamic relationship between people and animals that is influenced by behaviors essential to the health and well-being of both,” is a behavioral intervention that can address a multitude of clini cal problems.
