Pig Ear Dog Treats Linked To Salmonella Outbreak: CDC
93 people have been infected by the bacteria, including 20 who had to be hospitalized.
Abstract Hispanic style soft non-fermented cheeses, such as queso fresco (QF) have been linked to outbreaks and recalls. Salmonella is one of the main causes of these incidents. Due to lack of ripening or post-processing antimicrobial treatments, incorporating GRAS antimicrobials to production process may be a suitable approach to minimize microbial risk in QF. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of nisin (N), caprylic acid (CA) and trans-cinnamaldehyde (CN) as single or combined treatments to reduce Salmonella populations in QF during storage. Batches of QF were inoculated after curding with appr...

In this study, 42 Salmonella phages were isolated from environmentally-sourced water samples. We characterized the host range and lytic capacity of phages LPSTLL, LPST94 and LPST153 against Salmonella spp., and all showed a wide host range and broad lytic activity. Electron microscopy analysis indicated that LPSTLL, LPST94, and LPST153 belonged to the family of Siphoviridae, Ackermannviridae and Podoviridae, respectively. We established a phage cocktail containing three phages (LPSTLL, LPST94 and LPST153) that had broad spectrum to lyse diverse Salmonella serovars. A significant decrease was observed in Salmonella with a v...
A recent multistate outbreak of infections with multidrug-resistant Salmonella enterica serotype Newport with decreased susceptibility to azithromycin was linked to U.S. beef and Mexican cheese, according to an epidemiologic investigation.Reuters Health Information
An 2018 outbreak of multidrug resistant Salmonella enterica serotype Newport, with decreased susceptibility to azithromycin, has been linked to beef and raw cheese, most of which originated in Mexico.Morbidity &Mortality Weekly Report
A CDC advisory said 235 cases have been reported since July 19 and 175 people have been hospitalized. Two people have died in the outbreak -- one in Ohio and one in Texas.
Since January, a Salmonella outbreak linked to backyard poultry has landed 175 people in hospitals and even killed one, the Centers Disease for Control and Prevention said on Friday.

An outbreak of antibiotic linked to American beef and soft cheese imported from Mexico has sent 60 people to the hospitals. Antibiotic resistance is rare in salmonella, causing concern for the CDC.
This report summarizes the investigation of a multistate MDR Salmonella outbreak conducted by CDC, state and local health departments, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service. During June 2018-March 2019, 255 cases of infection with the outbreak strain were identified in 32 states; 43% of patients (89 of 206 with information on travel) reported recent travel to Mexico. Infections were linked to consumption of soft cheese obtained in Mexico and beef obtained in the United States. Consumers should avoid eating soft cheese that could be made from unpasteurized milk, regardless of the source...
