Task Force on Research Specific to Pregnant Women and Lactating Women

The 21st Century Cures Act established PRGLAC to advise the Secretary of Health and Human Services regarding gaps in knowledge and research on safe and effective therapies for pregnant women and lactating women. For its next phase, the PRGLAC Task Force is tasked with providing guidance on implementation of the recommendations made to the Secretary, September 2018.Air date: 8/23/2019 8:00:00 AM

Publication date: Available online 21 August 2019Source: Anaesthesia &Intensive Care MedicineAuthor(s): Naomi Fleming, Rowena CockerhamAbstractGeneral anaesthesia in obstetrics is reducing with a reported use in only 4% of caesarean sections in 2017–2018. Obstetric surgery is often urgent, requiring effective team communication and a rapid, focused preoperative assessment. Physiological changes of pregnancy increase the incidence of aspiration, desaturation and failed intubation. In addition, the rapidly evolving circumstances add additional stress, impacting on performance. Hypotension from aortocaval compr...

Authors: Fischer Fumeaux CJ, Morisod Harari M, Weisskopf E, Eap CB, Epiney M, Vial Y, Csajka C, Bickle Graz M, Panchaud A Abstract Introduction: Depression affects 300 million individuals worldwide. While selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) are one of the first-line pharmacological treatments of major depression in the general population, there is still uncertainty regarding their potential benefits and risks during pregnancy. Areas covered: Outcomes requisite for a proper risk/benefit assessment of SSRI in pregnancy and lactation were considered: (a) potential risks associated with untreated depression,...

Conclusion and Recommendation: Overall, PPs exhibited very low knowledge about drug safety during pregnancy. The absence of obligatory continuing pharmacy education for pharmacists is expected to have negatively affected the level of medication knowledge and consequently the pharmaceutical care services delivered in community and hospital pharmacies. As medication knowledge of PPs is poor, a multitude of strategies (educational, economic, managerial, and regulatory) should be designed by the government, universities, and pharmaceutical associations to improve the pharmacy professionals' role in the healthcare system by pro...

On Day 10, 14, 16, 18 and 20, blood...

Contributor : Brigitte Boizet-BonhoureSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Mus musculusNonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen (IBU) and analgesic drugs, such as acetaminophen (APAP), are the most frequently medications taken by pregnant women, even in combination. They were shown to target fetal gonadal development acting as endocrine disruptors, that might favour genital malformations in new-born boys and reproductive disorders in adults, in an intergenerational manner. However, the consequences on postnatal ovarian development and female reproductive health after in u...

Thede novoemergence of new genes has been well documented through genomic analyses. However, a functional analysis, especially of very young protein-coding genes, is still largely lacking. Here, we identify a set of house mouse-specific protein-coding genes and assess their translation by ribosome profiling and mass spectrometry data. We functionally analyze one of them,Gm13030, which is specifically expressed in females in the oviduct. The interruption of the reading frame affects the transcriptional network in the oviducts at a specific stage of the estrous cycle. This includes the upregulation ofDcpp genes, which are kn...
