Complications during Sclerotherapy for Symptomatic Hepatic Cysts: Successful Bailout for Penetrating the Hepatic Artery and Portal Vein

A 78-year-old woman presented with gastrointestinal obstruction and mild dyspnea. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) revealed 2 liver cysts in the anterior and medial segments of the stretched intrahepatic artery and portal vein (Fig 1). An 8.5-Fr catheter was placed into the cyst using ultrasound guidance. Bright red blood emerged from catheter, and carbon dioxide digital subtraction cystography revealed hepatic artery (Fig  2; Video 1 [available online on the article’s Supplemental Material page at www.jvir.org]).
