Myofibroma —A Common Congenital Lesion
A newborn girl presented with an erythematous nodule, 3-cm in diameter behind the ear, with ectatic vessels and a central alopecic ulcerated area (Figure 1). Ultrasound showed a noncompressible, well-defined lesion above the bone without an intralesional vascular signal (Figure 2; available at www.jpeds.com). The differential of potential causes of neonatal masses of the head/scalp is shown in the Table (available at www.jpeds.com).1,2 The nodule texture, extracranial localization, and the absence of internal vascular signal, suggested myofibroma as the most probable diagnosis.
