In this study, we investigated the detection rate of 22q11.2 copy number abnormalities in 2500 fetuses using single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) array and determined the common abnormal ultrasound findings in fetuses carrying the 22q11.2 copy number abnormalities. The 22q11.2 copy number abnormalities were identified in 13 fetuses with cardiovascular malformations (6/13), kidney malformations (3/13), isolated ultrasound markers (3/13), or high-risk Down syndrome based on maternal serum screening (1/13). Approximately 0.5% (13/2500) of the fetuses harbored 22q11.2 copy number abnormalities. The most frequent ultrasound fin...

So. I suppose we have some catching up to do.Schuyler and I are in Virginia. Where we live.Well, that's partially true. Schuyler lives here half the time, splitting her time from month to month with her mother, who now lives in Michigan. It's not complicated on paper, as divorce rarely is, but in practice it's probably going to be fraught with unforeseen peril, as divorce almost always is. I have Schuyler here with me for one more week, and then my month without her begins. I think we can all predict how well I'll take that, but there it is. The price of change. Perhaps it's the fee for exchanging the predictable ennui of ...

AbstractDown syndrome (DS) is one of the most well-recognized genetic disorders. Persons with DS are known to have a variety of co-morbid medical problems, affecting nearly all organ systems. Improved healthcare interventions and research have allowed for increased life span of persons with DS, although disorders of the neurologic system remain underexplored. The purpose of this systematic review is to provide clinically pertinent information on the neurological phenotypes of frequently occurring or clinically relevant conditions. A retrospective review of MEDLINE, Scopus, and Pubmed were used to identify sources among sev...

CONCLUSIONS: Evenson sedentary cut-points can be used for children with IDD. Preliminary data suggest that children with IDD do not engage in significantly different SB than children without a chronic illness. Further study is warranted. Implications for rehabilitation Objective measures of physical activity and sedentary behavior for children with Down syndrome or spina bifida are rarely used due to potential differences in body movement (e.g., gait) during ambulation compared to typically developing peers that may influence the accuracy of cut-points. This study supports that Evenson sedentary cut-points can be used in c...

We report that electrical stimulation (ES) stimulation of post-stroke aged rats led to an improved functional recovery of spatial long-term memory (T-maze), but not on the rotating pole or the inclined plane, both tests requiring complex sensorimotor skills. Surprisingly, ES had a detrimental effect on the asymmetric sensorimotor deficit. Histologically, there was a robust increase in the number of doublecortin-positive cells in the dentate gyrus and SVZ of the infarcted hemisphere and the presence of a considerable number of neurons expressing tubulin beta III in the infarcted area. Among the genes that were unique...
