Extended spectrum β-lactamase producing enterobacteriaceae: carbapenem sparing options. Expert Rev Anti Infect Ther. 2019 Nov 13;: Authors: Aslan AT, Akova M Abstract Introduction: Carbapenems have an important place in our antibiotic armamentarium and have been trusted to effectively treat infections caused by ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae for many years. However, the utility of carbapenems has been compromised by the emergence of resistance especially in Enterobacteriaceae. Therefore, carbapenem-sparing alternative antibiotics are of extreme importance in clinical practice.Areas covered: We ...

This study was performed at a tertiary-care educational university hospital. Adult (>18 years old) patients diagnosed with culture proven UTI due to carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (between December 2016 to December 2017) were included in the study. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing of the isolates was performed with the VITEK 2 system (bioMérieux). Resistance to imipenem, ertapenem, and meropenem was tested by E-test (bioMérieux). The results were interpreted according to the EUCAST criteria. A total number of 100 patients (34% female, mean age 61.69 ± 1.65&thinsp...

CONCLUSIONS: The Tc-99m DMSA scan remains the gold standard to detect renal parenchymal anomalies. A different length between the kidneys>1.11 SDS and dilated VUR are predictors of abnormal Tc-99m DMSA renal scan. PMID: 31726462 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

ConclusionsThe removal of indwelling catheter on day 4 after a RARP with a running barbed suture shows similar anastomosis leakage rates as on the 7th postoperative day. However, AUR rates are higher for early removal. Patients scheduled for early removal should be carefully informed about the increased risk for AUR. Catheter indwelling time does not represent a risk factor for UTI.

SummaryMeta ‐analyses of diagnostic test accuracy (DTA) studies have been gaining prominence in research in clinical epidemiology and health technology development. In these DTA meta‐analyses, some studies may have markedly different characteristics from the others, and potentially be inappropriate to inclu de. The inclusion of these “outlying” studies might lead to biases, yielding misleading results. In addition, there might be influential studies that have notable impacts on the results. In this article, we propose Bayesian methods for detecting outlying studies and their influence diagnostics i n DTA me...
