Clarification About Support for Conferences and Meetings
NIGMS has published a Notice in the NIH Guide to clarify the types of conferences and scientific meetings that the Institute will support through the R13 activity code. If you are thinking of requesting NIGMS funding for a meeting, it’s important to know that:
NIGMS funds very few meetings; Those R13 meeting applications that it accepts for review and considers for funding must meet all three of the following criteria: 1) they must be closely aligned with NIGMS’ mission; 2) they must be non-recurring; and 3) they must include participants who do not frequently interact in other venues; andNIGMS will not support scientific courses through the R13 activity code.
NIGMS will consider support for freestanding meetings that
focus on research training and/or workforce development or are in support of programs
in the Division for Research Capacity Building that do not fit within the Innovative
Programs to Enhance Research Training (IPERT) (R25).
Further information about NIGMS’ support of scientific
meetings is at https://www.nigms.nih.gov/research-training/resources/support-for-scientific-meetings.
