The other day I did the abnormal thing. I switched tracks from the expected, “How are you doing? Fine,” discourse that we all buy into every day. I reached outside of my comfort zone closing the gap between me and an acquaintance. Every day we put on a mask. That false appearance of positivity gives us a sense of security protecting us from vulnerability. But what happens when we don’t have the energy to do that anymore? And what if appearing perfect, happy and invincible is having a detrimental cost to our well-being? What I discovered when I took the risk is that connection is healing. It makes us feel less alone. It reminds us we’re all struggling with something and that reminder may be enough to boost someone’s day. Need more comfort this week?
